In Ephesians 5:15-16 Apostle Paul admonishes the Church to “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”
This encourages us to be wise and intentional about how we approach opportunities, and to discern between which ones are good and which are bad.
- False opportunities may seem appealing at first glance.
- Flawed opportunities may not yield the results or ROI you’re aiming for.
- Untimely opportunities may cause you to lose focus on your goals.
- Misaligned opportunities may result in mission-drift or a compromise of values.
Failure to recognize which door is the right door can result in you saying “yes” too frequently, which will over-extend your time, energy, money and resources. Then, when the RIGHT opportunity comes along, you’re mistakeably stretched too thin to step into the season God had already prepared for you, but that you did not wait for.
You can avoid the regret, disappointment, and self-blame of missing out on a promised ‘open door’ by using judgement and discernment. This is a fundamental LEADERSHIP SKILL.
So, I exhort you to in the same way Apostle Paul exhorted the Christians at Ephesus: “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise…”
